With the takeover of the BALTICMAR on 23 June 2026, Baas Shipping has reached another important milestone in its fleet modernisation programme. The newly built vessel is the fifth of a total of six units in a modern series of multi-purpose ships.

The ceremonial ship christening at Dajin Heavy Industries in Jiangsu, China, was performed by Coco Zhang, daughter of Baas Shipping’s local construction supervisor. The sixth and final vessel in the series is scheduled for delivery at the turn of the year, completing the series.

Today, Monday, the BALTICMAR left the shipyard. In the port of Lusin (China), the vessel will take on its first cargo bound for Spain. Upon its arrival in the Baltic Sea, the BALTICMAR will be integrated into the A to B @ C Shipping fleet and deployed there for short sea shipping.

The Ice Class 1A vessels, developed by the Dutch firm Groot Ship Design, have a deadweight tonnage of 5,900 dwt and feature modern, energy-efficient hull lines. Compared with the vessels currently in service in the A to B @ C fleet, which have a deadweight tonnage of 5,000 dwt, the newbuilds enable a reduction in CO₂ emissions of almost 50 per cent.

Emissions by almost 50 per cent.

The vessels are designed for the flexible transport of a wide variety of cargo types. To this end, they feature a 71-metre-long, box-shaped cargo hold with a volume of 321,000 cubic feet, as well as a partial tween deck which can also be used as a bulkhead if required.

“With the commissioning of the BALTICMAR, Baas Shipping is continuing its consistent course towards modernising its fleet and investing in high-performance, sustainable and versatile shipping capacity for European short-sea shipping,” emphasises Baas Managing Director Dierk Faust.
